Football:
The regular season has
officially come to an end! The Bishops finished the season with a winning
record of 4-2, after winning their last two regular season home games against
Austin Prep and Arlington Catholic by a combined score of 70-12. Against Austin
Prep, QB Jack Rega completed all three of his passes for touchdowns, including
a 54-yard bomb for a TD to senior, Timmy Chase. LB Ryan Carroll had his most
memorable game of his high school career, posting 10 tackles and a sack.
This
past Friday night, the Bishops took it to Arlington Catholic, winning by a
score of 40-6. The boys started the game slow, committing two early turnovers,
but woke up in the 2nd quarter scoring 27 points. Oronde Alfred ran
for over 130 yards and 2 TD’s. The game was capped off by a great TD run by
freshman Nick Tardanico who took a sweep to the house.
With
the win, the Bishops finished 3rd in Division 3A south, only behind
East Bridgewater and Norwell. They will open up their playoff run against
Dover-Sherborn this Friday night (10/28) at 6 p.m. Come be loud and support the
boys as they set their hopes to play at Gillette Stadium for a State
Championship run.
Fun
Fact: Senior captain Casey Earle is having an OUTSTANDING senior season. He
leads the team with 51 tackles, an average of 10.2 tackles per game, while also
having rushed for 68.4 yards a game. Keep up the good work Casey!
Cheerleading:
Cheer
will head over to Braintree this weekend
Sunday,
November 6 the team heads to the Fall CCL Cheer Championships at Austin Prep.
More info will be provided with start times etc as soon as possible.
Girls
continue to practice hard every day and have been a huge help on the sidelines
on Friday nights. Their halftime shows have been excellent! Be sure to come
watch them cheer and do their pushups this Friday night for playoffs.
Cross Country
Both
the boys and girls cross country teams have fought hard all season long. The
girls have posted a 3-3 record on the season, while the boys have posted a 2-4
record. Their next final dual meet of the season will take place, TODAY, Tuesday, October 25 at home. We
will be honoring the Seniors so come by Pond Meadow Park and support these
hardworking leaders!
Since
our last blog, the cross country captains have been named… Congrats to Paige
Roche, Tyler Kelly, and Anand Panigraphy who were all named captains for the
fall season. Your hard work, leadership, and success has been shown and
honored.
On
Thursday, October 27th, from 2 pm to 6 pm, the CCL Championship Meet
will take place at the Franklin Park Cross Country Course. To find out more
details on how to get to the course, check out the Cross Country page on
GOBishops. Good luck to all our runners that will be representing Archbishop
Williams.
Fun
Fact: Despite injuries and sickness, 7 runners all achieved their best
individual times in their past meet against two of the tougher opponents on the
season!
Boys Soccer:
Congrats
as well to the Boys Soccer program that has also qualified for the State Tournament
with a current record of 11-3-4! While their record is certainly outstanding,
it is their “Goals for v. Goals against” statistic that is truly amazing. In 17
games, the boys have scored 54 goals… while only giving up 23! The Bishops have
one game remaining in their regular season (Innovation Academy 10/29), then
playoffs will begin with the boy’s locking at least one home playoff game.
Senior
captain Sean Keenan has broken the school career point record with 100 points
and counting! Congratulations to Sean on this awesome feat.
Fun fact: During our Field-Goal
kicking contest at our home football game last Friday night, goalie Samuel
Hamer took home the top prize after successfully kicking a 35 yard kick through
the uprights!
Volleyball
Girls
Volleyball stands at a record of 6-10 on the season, but their record hardly
defines the type of season they have conquered. Despite starting the season
1-6, the girls’ have improved greatly as the year has gone on; posting a 5-4
record in their last 9 games. The girls had an outstanding win on Senior night
against Norwell, winning all three sets (25-14, 26-24, 25-20)
Sometimes
a season can be determined on more than just a team’s record. On Saturday,
October 15, Archbishop Williams and the volleyball program came together for
the “Kate McCarthy Scholarship Game” against South Shore Christian Academy. In
front of a “playoff atmosphere”, the volleyball team honored their forever
teammate, Kate McCarthy. The team wore purple jerseys and donned KPM3 on their
sleeves. Not only did the Bishops win the game on the court, but they also
helped raise over $3,000 for the scholarship.
It was
not only an amazing day, but these types of moments are what make a whole
season successful. Great job by Coach Lewis, the Volleyball girls, and
parents/community who made it such a memorable day!
Golf:
Add
another one for the athletic program this fall season… After their win against
Dedham on Monday, the boy’s golf team has qualified for the State Tournament!
The boys now have a record of 9 wins and 7 losses, including an extremely
impressive 7-2 record at their home course, Braintree Municipal. The team heads
to Glenn Ellen on Tuesday for the DIII South Sectional MIAA Tournament.
Fun
Fact: Senior Captain RJ Wetterberg finished 5th (with a 78) at the
CCL Championship at Gannon Golf Course in Lynn. Great work RJ!
Girls Soccer:
Congrats
to the Girl’s Soccer program for qualifying for the State Tournament with a
record of 9-1-4 (only loss coming at the hands of Spellman). Another team
battling injury throughout their season, the girls’ have showed a winning
mentality and toughness that has helped them get to 9 wins on the season. With 4
games left to be played in the regular season, the chances of the team reaching
double-digit wins are very high.
Forwards
Asiah Dingle and Chigozie Sumani have battled all season long as the team’s top
point producers, and they currently find themselves at 19 and 18 points,
respectfully, leading the team for the season. On the other side of the field,
both goalies have produced outstanding numbers in net. (Kaylee Walsh = 1.01
G.A.A & Abby McCulloch = 1.30 G.A.A)
With four
regular season games to go, the girls soccer team will look to finish the year
strong in their quest to land a home playoff game. As it stands right now, the
team is 7-0-1 at home! Keep up the great work girls.
Fun Fact: While Dingle and Sumani
continue to post eye-popping point numbers, we cannot sleep on 8th
grader Carly Akoury who is currently third on the team with 9 points!
