Boys Hockey

The boys’ hockey team looks to rebound from missing the tournament by one point last year. Although they lost some key players as they have moved on to college, young talent has come in looking to fill their role. The Bishops are looking to make a run this year under the guidance of the seniors and returners from last year. The team has improved and started to click in each scrimmage. Senior Ryan Brady had this to say about the season: “We have a really great group of kids this year, we have a lot of potential and looking to make playoffs and do some damage.” Junior Mark Blaney always weighed in on the season saying “Last year was very tough and seeing all of the seniors leave on that note, I don’t want to see that happen this year. The boys have been working hard and improving everyday. Looking to go deep this year and make a run.” The boys start their season away against the defending D2 State Champs Lowell Catholic on Saturday.

Girls Hockey

Girls hockey is already in full swing. The girls started their season with an 8-0 win over North Quincy on Saturday. The girls record is 2-0 and are off to a strong start. The team is looking to have a great season by putting in the work at practice. Senior Maggie Leonard recaps on last season, “Last year was very fun and exciting as we went 4-0 making it into tournament at the end of the season. With a sad loss in the first round we are determined to make it farther this year. I am confident in our team and I see us doing very well. I am excited to see the outcome and the accomplishments at the end of this season!” The girls have their next big game against Dennis/Yarmouth this Saturday at the Zap, come out and cheer them on!

Swimming

The swim team looks to match their 7-2 record last year. Although they lost a few seniors and vital members, they still have a lot of key underclassmen returning. They have just come off a record-breaking season and have the goal to break even more records this season. The swim team roster is extremely balanced and will look for contributions from swimmers ranging from seniors all the way down to 8th graders. Behind the leadership of junior captains Kelsey Akoury and Kelsey Harrington as well as senior captain Joe-Yee Yip, the Bishops will look to get win number one against East Boston on December 15th.

Cheerleading

Winter cheer for the girls has begun. They are showing great school spirit by cheering on our boys’ basketball team at home games.  Senior captain, Liv Riley, says "We're working hard it's gonna be a really competitive season and we hope to be really successful.” The girls are looking really well after their fall season, with new additions the team has depth. Come and cheer on with our cheerleaders at the home basketball games this season.

Girls Basketball

Girls basketball started off their regular season with a St. Mary’s win on Monday. As of yesterday, the girls record is 2-0, with the win over Bishop Feehan last night. As the girls prepare for the rest of their long season, they are looking strong. “Our season last year was very successful. We have been working hard since the very beginning. We are determined to win it all this year because we’ve won every odd year. Everyone has the same mindset to achieving that one goal which will guide us to the final game. Can’t wait to see what we accomplish this season!” says Senior captain Asiah Dingle. The girls are looking forward to the rest of the season and to continuing this strong start.

Boys Basketball

The boys’ basketball team is looking to have a successful season. The team has a lot of returners coming back this year. They are on the older side with mostly juniors and seniors on the team. They are improving in every game they have played despite the 0 and 3 start. I asked senior captain, James Dolan, on his thoughts for the season: “We are looking forward to improving from our tough year last year. The team has great chemistry on and off the court. Despite our winless start, we know that our work ethic in practice will turn into positive results shortly. It should be a very fun season.”

Winter Track

Winter track had their first meet of the season Tuesday. Despite the team’s loss in their first meet, they had plenty of positives to take away. As they continue to practice every day and put in their hard work, their season looks to be successful. “The new season has been challenging in the snow but it gives us a reason to work harder in practice. For the new members, they are still getting used to the routine and we trust them to get it done. We believe we will excel this year.” says senior Darnelle Stinford.
