AWHS Fall Sports Blog – Week of 26
September
The Dignan Athletic Facility is getting
close to completion. The equipment was delivered late last week and we are
working on the finishing touches. The locker rooms are near completion as well.
They are receiving new paint and a good cleaning. We will keep you posted on
when we will be able to use the facility.
As noted below we have a big week coming
up with some key CCL match-ups. We have our Homecoming games and rally on
Friday, which will be followed up by our Homecoming Dance. Please come out and
support our teams!
Football-
The team had a tough loss Friday (9/16) against Millis High School, 25-22. After
getting down 18-7 entering the 4th quarter, the Bishops stormed back
to take the lead 22-18. Millis regained the lead with a little less than 2
minutes left, but the Bishops could not answer. With a 1-1 record, conference
play will begin Friday (9/30) against the Crusaders of Bishop Fenwick. Archie's
hasn't beat Fenwick in 4 years, but they remain very confident in that streak
coming to an end.
**Come support the
boys, coaching staff, and cheerleaders for Homecoming (9/30). Kickoff is at 6
p.m.**
Boys
Soccer - Despite a few major injuries, the Boys’ Soccer team has continued
to impress, starting out 5-1-1. They have outscored opponents 26-11. This past
Saturday night (9/24), the Bishops gave the best team in the state, Braintree
High, a run for their money, but came up a bit short losing 4-3 (after getting
down 4-0!). The boys look to get back to their winning ways Monday (9/26)
against St. Marys and again Wednesday (9/28) against Bishop Fenwick.
**Come early and
support the boys for Homecoming (9/30). Game against Malden Catholic begins at
3:30 p.m.**
Girls
Soccer- The girls’ soccer team has
also gotten off to a fast start… going 3-0-2 in the first five games, outscoring
their opponents 11-4. Asiah Dingle leads the team with four goals and two
assists. Senior captain, Kaylee Walsh, has had two shutouts in goal. The
Bishops have had two straight ties, against two very dangerous teams (Cardinal
Spellman & Braintree), and will look this week to stay undefeated, with two
away games, against Bishop Fenwick (9/28) and Fontbonne (9/30). The depth and
talent on this team is pretty special.
Cheerleading-
Cheer has yet to compete in a
competition, but that hasn’t stopped them from looking in mid-season form at
the football games. The girls’ held a clinic ages 3-16 this past Sunday (9/25) at
the high school, and was a great success. Come watch the girls’ perform at our
homecoming football game this Friday night (9/30) and witness the hard work
that has been put in by both the team and Coach Durkin!
Volleyball-
Volleyball has gotten off to a bit of a
slow start at 1-6, but the young team has three different opportunities this
week to get back on track (at Norwell 9/26, at SSCA 9/28, and at home vs.
Arlington Catholic 9/29). Junior Caroline Hannon and Jamie Herrick have done
very well the first 7 games to start the season.
Cross
Country- Cross Country (Boys &
Girls) had a great and very competitive first week.. in their first meet, both
the boys and girls beat Matignon, but lost to Austin Prep. Steven Lynch came in
first against Matignon and finished second against Austin Prep, and Anand
Pinagraphy placed second against Matignon and third against Austin Prep. The productive
week was capped off with an awesome experience at the Ocean State Invitational
in Warwick, Rhode Island this past Saturday (9/24). Both teams return on
Tuesday (9/27) with a meet at Cardinal Spellman, against both Spellman &
Lowell Catholic.
Golf-
The golf team has started off the season 3-3.
After starting the year 2-0, the boys lost back-to-back matches to Spellman and
Arlington Catholic, but they bounced back with a huge win on Friday (9/15) over
St. Marys 174-171. After a quiet week this past week, the boys look to get back
over .500 with two tough matches against Cohasset High School on Tuesday (9/27)
and Bishop Fenwick on Thursday (9/29).
