Welcome to the Fall 2020 Sports Season

From the Athletics Department: Meet our Interns and sports program updates

Our Athletic Department offers a graded Internship elective. It is a competitive process to be accepted into this course. They are responsible for maintaining our website and updating our blog. They do scheduling, film work, Hudl (game film and statistics), and game administration. They are a key part of operating our athletics program.

This year, seniors Kat Greenwood and Mel McClay were chosen for the course and have been doing a great job! They have composed the following brief introduction of themselves and written a pre-season round-up of the Fall Sports season.

Kat Greenwood, I have played volleyball and basketball all four years here. I plan on majoring in anatomy and physiology. One of my favorite things about Archies is the friendship created on and off the court.

Mel McClay, I have played hockey, lacrosse, and soccer all six years here. I am a peer minister this year, and also in the Spanish club. I am looking to go to college to become an Early Childhood Education teacher. I love going to White Horse Beach and spending time with my nephews!

Volleyball- After coming off a thrilling 12-10 season making it all the way to the quarterfinals head Coach Ben Leong looks to rebuild the program after losing Eight Seniors and 5 starters. With two new hitters from Sacred heart, the lady bishops are excited to see what they bring to the table. Senior leader Alaina Liddell says, “ I am optimistic about this upcoming season! I’m excited to be back on the court and to create new friendships with the girls on the team. Everyone seems to get along really well and I can’t wait to see what the Sacred heart girls can add to the team!” The team is very confident they can handle all the challenges lying ahead of them. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do we’re anticipating big things!

Cross Country- The cross country team had a terrific season last fall. With many returning players they look to have a great showing at all their dual meets. Senior Sam Rossini says “ I am very excited to see what the upcoming cross country season holds. I can’t wait to get to know any new runners and overcome any challenges COVID-19 might bring”. The team has many strong returners who are looking forward to a great season.

Golf- Golf had a very strong season ending with an 11-5 record placing first at Division 3 South Sectionals. Senior Nick Melo says, “ I’m excited about the season and can’t wait to see how much the boys have done over the offseason ” We are very confident in the boys this year and can’t wait to see them on the course.

Boys Soccer- Last season the boys were CCL champions with a record of 14-7-0, and they plan on having just as strong of a season this year. Senior Christian Koylion says, “ I'm looking forward to working with the masks and to adjust to the new rules. This year we need to work on our skills and I'm glad we are having a season.”  The boys have many competitive returners and are looking forward to starting the new season.

Girls Soccer - With the season fast approaching and coming back from a strong 2019 season with a record of 11-8-0, the girl's soccer team is ready to play. With a total of eight seniors this season, two coming from Sacred Heart, the team is looking strong. Senior Aurora Kilrain is having a positive outlook on this upcoming season. She says, “ I’m looking forward to playing with the new girls and figuring out how to distance but also play. I hope we can make the best out of our senior year even with all the new regulations.” The season is looking good for the girl's soccer team!
