From the Athletics Department: Meet our Interns and sports program updates

Winter season blog #4 -

22 February 2021 by Mel McClay and Kat Greenwood, AWHS Athletic Interns.

Boys Hockey- The boy's hockey team had a remarkable season. Ending the season with a 12-1-3 record the boys were nearly undefeated. The boys beat Bishop Feehan 4-1 to hold a spot in the finals of the CCL cup. On Saturday night the Varsity team lost 4-1 in the CCL cup finals against St. Marys, a hard-fought game by the boys. The Freshman team ended off the season 6-0 and the Jv team ended 6-6. Congratulations to all three teams on a successful season!

Girls Hockey-  The girl's hockey team ended the season with a full schedule. The season record was 7-11-4. To end the season the girls tied Bishop Feehan 4-4 on Saturday. Only graduating one senior this year, the girls will be young for the upcoming season. The girls played tough competition this season and were able to go up against some unfamiliar teams. The season was an overall success. Congratulations to the girl's program!

Boys Basketball-  The boy's basketball team ends the year with a 12-7 record. In the last couple of regular-season games the boys struggled in the win category but when CCL Cup came around the team was all about the big wins. The boy's basketball team took a huge win against St Mary’s in Triple overtime to go on and play Bishop Feehan in the finals. They fought hard all the way till the end of the game but came up short. The boys graduate five seniors this year but look to be as much of a force as they were this season next season. Congratulations to the boy's program for a successful season!

Girls Basketball-  The girl's basketball team ended the season with a 5-9 record. The girls ended the season with a few good wins against Bishop Stang and Cathedral. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the first round of the CCL cup in a hard-fought game against St Mary’s, the eventual CCL Cup Champions. The girls graduate 4 seniors this year and will be a young team next season. Congratulations to the Girl's programs, we can’t wait to see what next year brings!

Swim-  Swim had a great season! The team worked hard at their practices and virtual meets. With many great accomplishments by each swimmer, the team was very successful! The team had 8 hardworking seniors this season. The team is returning some remarkable swimmers as well. Congratulations to the swim team for their great successes!

About our Interns:

Our Athletic Department offers a graded Internship elective. It is a competitive process to be accepted into this course. They are responsible for maintaining our website and updating our blog. They do scheduling, film work, Hudl (game film and statistics), and game administration. They are a key part of operating our athletics program.

This year, seniors Kat Greenwood and Mel McClay were chosen for the course and have been doing a great job! They have composed the following brief introduction of themselves and written a Bi-Weekly round-up of the Winter Sports season.

Kat Greenwood, I have played volleyball and basketball all four years here. I plan on majoring in anatomy and physiology. One of my favorite things about Archies is the friendship created on and off the court.

Mel McClay, I have played hockey, lacrosse, and soccer all six years here. I am a peer minister this year, and also in the Spanish club. I am looking to go to Bridgewater State to become an Elementary Education teacher and play lacrosse. I love going to White Horse Beach and spending time with my nephews!
