Fall Blog #1 from our Athletic Interns:

Our Athletic Department offers a graded Internship elective. It is a competitive process to be accepted into this course. They are responsible for maintaining our website and updating our blog. They do scheduling, film work, Hudl (game film and statistics), and game administration. They are a key part of operating our athletics program.

This year, seniors Amy Donnelly and Jill Morse were chosen for the course and have been doing a great job! They have composed the following brief introduction of themselves and written a pre-season round-up of the Fall Sports season.

Amy Donnelly: I have played hockey and lacrosse for my two years here. I plan on going to college to become an athletic trainer. One of my favorite things about Archies is the atmosphere and how friendly everyone is!

Jill Morse: I have played volleyball for my two years at Archies. After college, I plan to become a physical therapist. My favorite thing about Archies is how welcoming everyone is and the friends I have made here.

Volleyball:

After coming off of a disappointing season with a record of 2-10 the team is looking up with new coach Kara O’Toole and a strong team with 7 seniors. This season the team is starting out strong with a record of 2-3 with hopes of making it to the CCL cup. Senior Ersi Doci says “The team is looking much stronger this year. We all have high expectations for ourselves, and hope to make this our best season yet.” Their next match is Tuesday, September 21 at Cardinal Spellman.

Fall Cheer:

Cheer has done a great job at the football games and is continuing to prepare for future games and competitions. Senior Mairead Curran says “We have a young strong team with lots of talent looking forward to a successful competition season.” Thank you for supporting the girls on Friday night.

Cross Country:

With a short season due to COVID, last year both the boys and girls teams finished with a 3-2 record. Both teams start off the season with a girls record of 5-1 and boys record of 2-3. After a strong first two meets both teams look like they will have a successful season ahead of them hoping to make it to the CCL cup. Senior Casey Curran says “Overall we have a much bigger team than previous years. Both the girls and boys teams have strong runners where we beat AC and lost to Feehan in our first CCL meet on Wednesday. Each team showed a positive attitude and great effort the whole meet.” Both boys and girls cross country teams ran this Saturday in the CCL McNiff Relays at Bishop Fenwick and did really well.

Golf:

Finishing off their 2020 season with a 4-7 record the golf team looks to make the 2021 season very successful. They started off their season strong with a 2-3 record as they beat both Cardinal Spellman and Matignon and took a close loss to Bishop Fenwick, Austin Prep, and Bishop Stang. Senior Joe Creamer says “We’re off to a decent season with a lot of close matches looking to improve a lot and have a strong season.” Golf heads to Bishop Fenwick on Monday for their next match.

Boys Soccer:

After coming off a CCL Cup Championship last season and a record of 11-2-3, the boys plan on having another strong and successful season. Senior Captain Colby Carey says “The boys are off to a good start. We have a lot of young potential on the team this year. As the season goes on the team will continue to get better. We also have 7 seniors on the team that are going to have to step up” This season the boys are off with a 1-2 record with their next game Monday, September 20th at Cardinal Spellman.

Girls Soccer:

The girls soccer team is off to a strong start with their season with a record of 2-1. Captain Senior Jamie Fulton says “This is a very exciting season, not only to be playing during COVID but also being a team of talented young players. The team has a great attitude and a greater bond that enjoys playing and becoming better together.” The girls are looking for another win against Spellman on September 20th at Memorial Field.

Football:

After coming off a strong fall 2 season of a 5-2 record the football team lost a close one to a strong Quincy and Norwell teams to open the season. The Bishops are looking for a good season this year with many talented players including the group of 10 seniors looking to finish off on a successful season. Senior Captain Matt Kowalski said “I think we have a great group of guys who work really hard. The loss to Quincy was a huge wake-up call and we had our best week of practice this week so I think it will culminate into some good football. As far as the rest of the season goes we are just trying to work harder than every other team in the CCL every day and obviously, the goal is to win the league.” Their next game is our Homecoming Game on September 24 at 6pm against Arlington Catholic at Memorial Field.
