From the Athletics Department: Meet our Interns and sports program updates

Fall “One” season blog #4 - 16 October 2020

Our Athletic Department offers a graded Internship elective. It is a competitive process to be accepted into this course. They are responsible for maintaining our website and updating our blog. They do scheduling, film work, Hudl (game film and statistics), and game administration. They are a key part of operating our athletics program.

This year, seniors Kat Greenwood and Mel McClay were chosen for the course and have been doing a great job! They have composed the following brief introduction of themselves and written a Bi-Weekly round-up of the Fall Sports season.

Kat Greenwood, I have played volleyball and basketball all four years here. I plan on majoring in anatomy and physiology. One of my favorite things about Archies is the friendship created on and off the court.

Mel McClay, I have played hockey, lacrosse, and soccer all six years here. I am a peer minister this year, and also in the Spanish club. I am looking to go to college to become an Early Childhood Education teacher. I love going to White Horse Beach and spending time with my nephews!

Volleyball-  Volleyball is off to a rough start playing some of their hardest competition in the first few weeks of the season. With a loss, last week to St Mary’s and Bishop Feehan the lady bishops look to turn their season around with a win against Fontbonne Academy Monday.

Cross Country-  Cross country had their first meet of the season Saturday, October 4th against Bishop Feehan. Unfortunately, they lost a tough one to a very strong opponent. Senior Davi Soloman says “We had our first meet we didn’t do as well as we wanted to but we can only get better from here and I’m excited to see where it goes.” Cross country runs there next meet Saturday, October 10th against Arlington Catholic at Bishop Fenwick

Golf-  Golf is 1-4 this season. With a big win over Bishop Fenwick, the team looks to use this momentum in their upcoming match against Bishop Feehan at Braintree Municipal Golf Course at 3pm Saturday, October 17th. Senior Chris Kenney says “ we had a big win against Bishop Fenwick and I think that is going to help us to do well in our other matches coming up. We needed that win to get us excited for the season!”

Boys Soccer- The boy's soccer team is looking forward to playing at home this Saturday, October 17th at 12:00pm against St. Josephs. With a nice 2-1 win over St. Marys and a hard-fought battle against Bishop Feehan to put the Varsity team at 3-1-0. The Jv boys are doing well with a solid 2-1-0 schedule.

Girls Soccer- The girl's soccer team has had a competitive schedule. The varsity girls record is 1-1-1 after a nice 7-0 win over St. Mary’s and a tough loss against Bishop Feehan. In celebration of the seniors, this season the girls will play St. Joseph’s for their senior day this Saturday, October 17th at 2:00pm at Memorial Field (Home).
